Mike's Story
Mike and wife

Hello my name is Mike. Part of my story starts in 1974, thats when I started drinking. I was your average 70's head, always partying. Then in the 80's it got a little worse when I started shooting drugs (although I never shared a needle). All that didn't get me where I'm at today. Ironically in the summer of '86 I received a tattoo of a Dragon in a not too sterile enviroment. Thats where I think I got Hep-C. Things went along for years with me still drinking and working at resturants all over the country. In the fall of '97 I arrived in Seattle Washington 3 days late for a cook's position on a large crabbing ship. That missed job made me get a little cooks job at a sailors bar in downtown Seattle. There I met my wife Julie although at the time I was not looking for her. Eventually through the course of nature we married and added 2 more children to the 2 she already had. Oct. 2000 I decided I had enough of the booze and went into a treatment program. I believe that saved my life. After the first few weeks of recovery I noticed the insides of my body was hurting and I knew something was wrong. A full physical in Nov. revealed the Hep-C (type 1a) and a biopsy in Apr. 2001 revealed mid stage cirrhosis. July 10th 2001 I started 49 weeks of IntronA (combo). The first few weeks have been rough but things seem to be leveling off. I know the chances are against me for these nasty drugs to work but hopefully with a positive attitude and the support of my wife and children we will beat this. Thank You for letting me tell you my story and if your reading this I wish you all the luck in the world in your own battle.
