Renea's Story

Hi, My name is Renea. I found out that I had Hep C In 1999 I went and donated blood for a Halloween club drive. They said if they found anything they would let me know by letter in 4-6 weeks which they did I was very upset and devasted, when the big, thick envelope came I just knew I had aids, but it wasn't it turned out to be Hep C it still didn't help matters. I knew I had a very serious disease. I cried for days after I called the Red cross and they told me I need to see a doctor and get more tests done so I made an appointment with a doctor at a free clinic because I no insureance and no money to really pay for the expense of a private doctor. They ran test and they all came back positive for Hep C and it broke my heart.

The next time they decided to see me they sent me to a liver specialist through the county hospital and they said there was nothing they could do just give me information on nutrition and the liver and just go home. I was so upset, everybody kept telling me about this Peg-intron, but because I had no insurance and no money I was given the option to take it that didn't help matters because I have son that at the time was 9 yrs. old, I wasn't ready to leave him or my family.
