Roanna's Story

Mesarat

I never thought I would be able to do this. But I feel it needs to be said.

First my name is Roanna and I am a divorced 39 year old from Indianapolis.

I was a single mom for about 7 or 8 years and I concentrated on working and raising my kids. Then at the end of 1994 I got a job offer to go to southern Ind. to manage a gas station and turn it around. So I found someone to keep my kids temporarily and went down to start a life. After a month I had my first trailer and my kids were with me. Then I met a man who begged me to go out with him and evetually I did, fell in love and got married.

About a year later, I got a cyst under my left breast and the docs did outpatient surgery I was fine. we had some rough times and I lost my job, so I went to the blood bank and sold my plasma. After the second time there, I got a letter telling me to contact them there was something wrong with the blood and I needed to talk to the counselor there. Lo and behold I was informed I had hepc and needed to go to a doc. But with no insurance, and a husband who kept whining he didn't think he had to work to survive, I let it go. I freaked out the first day and went and got drunk and cried all night.

My husband refused to get a blood test and to this day hasn't been tested. Anyway, for about a year, I still worked and tried to pay bills, he finally got a minimum wage job to help. At low income I got welfare and medicaid so I got the referral to a gastro and started treatment on interferon shots.

Boy I was sick and no support from him at all. He continued to drink and whine, but I was strong and thought love can pull us through. I went through the shots and found out I was a non-responder, by then they had the combo therapy out. So we tried that one for 6 months and still no response. The gastro at the time said since our calculations are that I hadn't had the hep for very long I didnt need a liver biopsy, and I was still uniformed of info about this dragon. So I didnt get one.

My medicaid got cut off because he got a decent job and I couldn't continue with treatment. After a couple more years, I was having bad back problems, and was off work from so I got welfare again and tax time thank god got a computer and met my heppo family. What a grand day!! I had been living in a fantasy land, my father-in law passed away and the husband inherited 35 acres of woods with house and lake etc. After a year and a half, he decided he hated the kids and wanted a divorce and threw us out, so he could party and drink all time with his friends.

I about lost it then and came close to a nervous break down but I pulled through it and am trying to get a life again. I had to ship my kids to family because of no where to go and finally got a house to rent and an adopted 23 year old daughter who works and supports me until I can get through the process of disability claims.

So far been denied once, but have been told thats normal. I will fight for it and I will fight this dragon too. I love my heppo family and with their love and god's love, things will get better. I have faith that I was saved from the ex for someone who will love me for me and it will happen.

God bless everyone with this cross to bear and I am available at any time. I will always be here to help anyway I possilbly can. I have met some wonderful people here. My e-mail is ro4321@yahoo.com feel free to contact me.

I will be here. Love to all, Roanna
